Total Hours as of the end of February - 122.5 hours
Tuesday - March 2, 1999
4 hours - Entry and input of January journal entries. I also continued working on the site mapper problem, which is driving me insane. I can get it working on small practice sites, but for some reason, it will not work on large sites of any kind. My gut feeling is that this is a bug in the program and not anything that I am doing wrong. It still is unnerving, because I desperately want this feature in my site It would enhances the ability of an individual to move around and gain a larger picture of what I've done here than you can ever get without it. Without the site mapper working, my site becomes less impressive and more burdensome to move around in. I must come up with some alternative to help the browser travel through the entire site, if I can't get this working.
Wednesday - March 3, 1999
2 hours - Attempting to publish site to my computer. I have continued looking at ways to fix the problem with the sitemapper, still no solutions.
Thursday - March 4, 1999
3 hours - Journal entries for February - Publishing site. Looking for ways to get this out on a few search engines, so that more might be able to access easily the information here. Continue working with site map. I don't think it's going to work.
Friday - March 5, 1999
3 hours - Proof read entire site and fixed minor spelling and spacing errors. Continue to look for ways to produce a site map of some kind for browsers to access for convenience of moving around site.
Saturday - March 6, 1999
3.5 hours - Working on a site map solution for website. I've got an idea that I think will work if I can't get site mapper working. I'm going to try to take a picture in my computer of my site map, turn it into a jpeg file in Photoshop and then reload it back on to my page as an image map instead of using the site mapper. It won't link like a regular site map where pages are highlighted or cascade messages appear over each page when you mouse over, but it will give the browser an idea of where all the pages are in the website and which order they are organized in, and where they are. Hopefully this will work and be adequate. I haven't got it figured out, but I'm sure it can be done. I'll go ask a proctor if they can help me. I'll talk to Dale as well and see what he thinks.
Tuesday - March 9, 1999
2.5 hours - Reviewed site map/image map with Dale. It has been my biggest headache. Tonight I also worked on trying to create cascading messages for the site mapper, but these attempts failed. I am satisfied with how the site is so I think it's time to wrap things up and put the final finishing touches on everything. I have asked four or five different individuals, some with computer experience and others without any computer experience to review my site and give me suggestions and feedback on their impressions of what is here. Hopefully their feedback will come back in the next few days and I will have some added insight to make this site even that much sharper and presenter to the public as a whole. I have become somewhat concerned that I created this site with a 17 inch monitor without taking into account that many may view this site on a smaller monitor. This will create some confusion and headaches for those with smaller monitors because the layout will be adjusted for them and the layout of the site will then become less cohesive and clear. I am uncertain whether this is something for me to be concerned about at the present time, though I realize it is something I should consider if publishing this on the Internet or providing it to a lager audience with a diversity of computers.
Wednesday - March 10, 1999
3.5 hours - Previewed entire site with Heather. I don't understand something. When I publish my site to the web there are several graphics that do not work, yet when I publish it to my disk and then view it, I have everything working, but a couple of buttosn. I have no idea what is causing this problem. I feel like I need to fix this before I wrap up my project, but everytime I do something, it seems like something new comes up that is wrong. I don't like how Fusion seems to do things on it's own. I wonder if the hidden HTML has something to do with the problems that come up out of no where.
Thursday - March 11, 1999
2.5 hours - I came in here tonight intending on writing the summary for this project and putting closure on everything. Instead what I end up with is more little problems, like links or buttons that won't work when I know they should. Why does this keep happening. What is most frustrating in situations like this is the fact that you don't know why something doesn't work, you just have to guess and hope it works itself out. I don't want to do this much longer.
Saturday - March 13, 1999
5 hours - I came back to fix all of the things that should have been working. I deleted and then re-entered all of my graphics, links and buttons that weren't working. I published the site and everything is working great. I don't understand it and I don't care anymore, all I know is that it is working the way it should and I don't want to mess with this much longer. Now all I have left to do is write up my summary and this project should be complete.
Tuesday - March 16, 1999
